I wonder why the curtain falls –
Before the final act,
Perhaps it’s just an easy pause –
Perhaps it’s gravity –
Perhaps some sullen stagehand asked
For time to go and rest –
And wonder why from time to time
In darkness satining –
The sky goes silent for a night –
And earth – and sea – resign –
But at a certain time of day –
With destiny aplomb! –
The frost – too – fallen quick tonight –
With sighs it soars – and high –
