I take solace in being alone (words I
never thought I’d say and words I’ve never
said out loud). The boughs of the old
yew tree in the centre of the churchyard
have all come down, but the roots go
deep. The stories fill the gaps in my
memories where I carved out spaces to
remain whole. The distances between
tell stories of their own, unknowings
far deeper than the ones left out. I
wait on the edge of the dawn, hoping
to catch a glimpse of the space where
the two of us used to meet.
